I had the fortunate opportunity to meet amazing Yoga Master Baba Hari Das when I was four years old. We called him “Babaji” which means revered one. He had recently moved to California from India and had a very small group of students and I was a child of one. He had so much strength and flexibility and radiated peace, vitality and hope to all around him. He eventually started the largest Holistic study retreat center on the West Coast Mt Madonna Center.
He taught me about living closer to nature, natural ways of health and nutrition and being of service. I went to school at Mt. Madonna’s first school in seventh grade. We meditated every day before class. It was quite a wonderful experience for me.
Eventually I did Mt. Madonna’s Yoga Teacher Training and became very familiar with all eight branches of Yoga as a comprehensive holistic healing and health modality SEE HERE. What most people think of as “yoga” is only one of the eight branches (asana - movement).
This is also when I fell in love with the kitchari detox soup that the yogi’s eat to stay healthy or to detox, and later, with Babaji’s blessing, wrote a book about it with the photo on the cover SEE HERE being one of the daily pots of kitchari soup served at Mt. Madonna Center. What is kitchari and how to make The Amazing Healing Kitchari Soup.

Baba Hari Das also had a great love of Jesus and I have now found my way to Christianity, however, the basic tenants Babaji taught me 1. work honestly 2. meditate every day (pray) 3. meet people without fear 4. play have lead my life’s journey.
Amazing Babaji as described in Wikipedia: Baba Hari Dass was an Indian yoga master, silent monk, temple builder, and commentator of Indian scriptural traditions of dharma and moksha. He was classically trained in the Ashtanga of Patanjali, as well as Kriya yoga, Ayurveda, Samkhya, Tantra, Vedanta, and Sanskrit. Wikipedia He can be credited with much of yoga taking off in America and especially in CA. His basic Yoga Primer is wonderful: Ashtanga Yoga Primer Book.
I have continued doing yoga on and off throughout my life and came upon an amazing Yoga Teacher named Jade Xiao (who is now teaching yoga at Stanford). She had been an accountant and came down with terrible neck nerve impingements and when she started doing yoga daily fell in love with it and now is one of the most distinguished and advanced yoga teachers in the world. We interviewed her on the Your Healthy Living Show (SEE VIDEO BELOW) a few years ago and I recommend following her on Facebook too: https://www.facebook.com/jade.xiao.39.
In pursuit of “being of service” I became an acupuncturist and set out to combine yoga and acupressure to give self healing back into the hands of my patients. This is where I developed the Qiyoga for common ailments series (see on my You Tube channel HERE).
Babaji once told me when I was struggling with my health “trust yoga”. This is what I share with my patients now, “trust nature, the body is made to be healthy, the closer you are to nature and natural ways the more likely the spark of life will occur in you and your life will only get better from this” Here is a great study on this: The effect of yoga on stress level in infertile women (Pub Med), where they found that yoga could reduce stress levels in infertile women.. I made a specific simple and short Qiyoga for Fertility exercise routine as well: HERE.
If I can be of assistance to you or anyone you know who may be suffering from infertility please share this Substack.
I take United, Cigna and VHP insurances and have holistic online or in person fertility programs.
Thank you,
Dr. Shasta Ericson DAOM
